Grant spent his early life in New Orleans, LA where he was molded by the various intersections of race, politics, community, sports (especially basketball), and Bourbon Street. He calls basketball his “first love” and explains that while his focus was there, he failed to grasp the worlds of politics, governments, and business that stewed around him throughout his childhood. It wasn’t until his college career that he was inspired to “do something that impacted lives.” He graduated with a degree in Political Science/Digital Design from Park University and an underlying goal to blend those studies into something he could be excited about.
From this excitement came his passion project that is now thriving as “Causeartist.” Grant uses Causeartist as a platform to impact lives by uncovering the creative brands, startups, and social entrepreneurs that share his spirit for change. He was quick to discover that amidst the ever-growing world of social enterprise, the consumer has the power to shape the world of business and boost the developing world. The purpose of Causeartist in Grant’s words is, “To be a place of discovery, education, and information that introduces readers, consumers, investors, organizations, and brands to the amazing things that this industry has to offer.”
His working theory regarding the social enterprise sector is simple:
High Quality Products + A Great Story and Impact = Massive Impact in our World
Grant came on board with Charity Charge in 2017 when he and Stephen Garten crossed paths and uncovered their shared belief in the strength of social enterprise. His previous experience with startups includes work with Stand4, Causeartist, and Emoji My City. Grant now calls Kansas City, MO home and loves to spend time making music with all the royalties and sales benefiting global impact projects around the world. As a Charity Charge cardholder, Grant supports Beyond the Conviction and plans to eventually add New Story and buildOn to his donation list.
A few of Grant’s favorite things are coffee, beer, fantasy sports, awesome food, and dope music. He also follows the New Orleans Saints (to nobody’s surprise) and likes to binge Homeland or watch his favorite movie, Children of Men. He believes that, “We are not to be defined by our mistakes, but defined by our purpose.”
Grant also tells readers to, “Always be a leader, only follow your passion.” He follows his passions every day and brings a deep understanding of social enterprise and killer social media skills to the Charity Charge team.
