‘Doing good’ in my mind isn’t about grand gesture or big checks, it’s about the small acts that, little by little, add up to create something big.
– Katherine Owens

“Hi, my name is Katherine Owens. I am originally from Birmingham, Alabama, but I lived in Austin, Texas for four years before making my way to London where I am currently pursuing an MBA at London Business School.

While living in Austin, I had the privilege of serving as a Mentor for Explore Austin, a program aimed at changing the lives of underserved youth through leadership, mentoring, and adventure.

It’s always been important to me to give back to my community. I strongly believe that if everyone gave a small amount of their time to helping others – in whichever way they wish – we could solve a lot of our problems – from homelessness, crime, and access to healthcare.

‘Doing good’ in my mind isn’t about grand gesture or big checks, it’s about the small acts that, little by little, add up to create something big. Something that has the potential to change someone’s life or create a social benefit that extends beyond our own lives.”

Meaningful change doesn’t roll in all at once like a storm sweeping through the sky above the streets of London; it’s more like filling a swimming pool with an eye-dropper, drip-by-drip. But if all of us make an effort, those distant goals will soon not seem so out-of-reach.
