As an advisor and sounding board to Stephen and the team, Martin brings grey hair and nearly forty years of experience in the technology world to Charity Charge.
A native of London England, he has been back and forth to Austin since the mid-80s and living here since 1996.
It is an oversimplification, but the key pillars of Martins experience and expertise pivot around leadership, strategy, and execution. He has consistently delivered excellent leadership and management within early stage technology companies where the heavy lifting of constant strategy refinement combined with delivering operational excellence from the ground up, is the order of the day.
Martin cut his early career teeth at Xerox in the UK. In sales roles, he achieved top national results and a sales management position before transitioning to marketing.
In ’86, he was recruited by an unknown and fledgling Dell Computer Corporation, (it was actually still called PC’s Limited then) and Michael Dell was just twenty-one. During his years at Dell, Martin was head of the UK business and at the time of leaving was co-head of Dell Europe.
Since then, Martin has invested in, started and been a key part of a number of technology companies ranging from Home Automation to Restaurant Information systems and many in between.
For example, in the late 80s in the UK, he was an initial investor, advisor, and chairman of Softcat Plc. From just a few people company, Softcat has grown to a leading public company and the second largest supplier of IT products and services with revenues over a billion dollars. In the US most recently, Martin was a consultant and then responsible for defining and then developing HomeAway’s Property management business worldwide.
Martin retired in 2012 and has used that time to help and work with many young entrepreneurs who would reach out to him. Martin got to know Stephen through his son and daughter in law and became fascinated and enthused by the opportunity for Charity Charge to do good in such a simple yet powerful way. Charity Charge is Martins sole focus outside of enjoying retired life – it is that important.
