Charity Charge is excited to highlight the important and groundbreaking nonprofits we partner with that are committed to serving others every day. In celebration of Independence Day, we’re taking the first week of July to highlight our partner organizations that deeply impact their communities.
WSLR (Sarasota, Florida)
Founded in 2005, WSLR has a radio show and newspaper dedicated to spreading awareness about issues and important grassroot efforts in the city. Their podcasts and live shows cover subjects from under-reported news topics to “New Radio,” a student-run show at New College of Florida. WSLR’s mission is to be a “center for creative expression and community engagement that amplifies the voices of our diverse community and promotes peace, sustainability, democracy and economic and social justice.” Tune in to their pertinent and intriguing content at wslr.org.
Community Action for Improvement (Lagrange, Georgia)
Community Action for Improvement was founded in 1966 and supports Carrollton, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Troup Counties in Georgia. CAFI’s mission is to “assist low income families in achieving self-sufficiency and self-empowerment through the delivery of high-quality social services.” Their programs include Energy Assistance, Weatherization, Housing Stability and Homeless Prevention Program, and Client Service connection for low-income individuals. As of 2019, CAFI has served 6,500 members. In recent months, the organization has worked to help those who have lost their jobs due to Covid-19. In need of services or want to volunteer? Go to cafi-ga.org.
New Economy Coalition (Somervile, MA)
New Economy Coalition is a collaboration of organizations that focus on teaching leaders, amplifying voices, and supporting communities to bring justice to one’s economic and political systems. For the last eight years, NEC values the idea that “what we need is a new system—a new economy—that meets human needs, enhances the quality of life, and allows us to live in balance with nature. Far from a dream, this new economy is bursting forth through the cracks of the current system as people experiment with new forms of business, governance, and culture that give life to the claim that another world is possible.” Learn more about NEC, find resources, and explore events at neweconomy.net.
